From Claremont Graduate University’s description:
On Saturday, May 10, 2014, Dr. Patrick Q. Mason delivered a lecture entitled “Why the Cross?” Mason holds the Howard W. Hunter Chair of Mormon Studies at Claremont Graduate University. Although Mormonism uniquely emphasizes the Garden of Gethsemane in the saving work of Jesus, this lecture suggests that a renewed focus on the cross can help Latter-day Saints consider how Christ redeems not only their souls but also their society.

I may respond to this later, but I wanted to share it now since I might not get to it for a few weeks.

How does this compare to Michael Reed’s “Banishing the Cross”
I look forward to your response, Chris.
I am a bit swamped, but I have not forgotten.
