While everyone has been talking today about the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold “federal tax credits for eligible Americans living not only in states with their own exchanges but also in the 34 states with federal marketplaces”, and the soon to be decision on Marriage Equality, an equally important decision was made in a courtroom in New Jersey. A seven person jury decided 7-0 in the case of Ferguson v. JONAH that “Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing committed fraud by promising four young men and their parents that the non-profit could change their sexual orientation from gay to straight.”
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center this decision:
means exposing conversion therapy practices to the light of day. It means preventing other people struggling with their sexual orientation from being lured into a dangerous world of junk science that can cost them their health, their peace of mind and their savings.
I want to dedicate this “Hymns of Social Justice” post to Michael Ferguson, Benjamin Unger, and all of the other winners in this case. They are truly Brave and have helped to make our country a better place
