Jim Gaffigan on the Sabbath

Comedian Jim Gaffigan addresses not performing on Sundays in the above video (Source: Context with Lorna Dueck).

Here is a similar quote from a 2013 feature in the New York Times:

I’ll do a show every night except for on Sundays. The great thing about stand-up is that I can eat with my kids and have a lot of time with them, but I have to go to work afterward, so I can’t get too comfortable. But on Sunday, I don’t have to worry about that.

I like this perspective on the Sabbath. For me, it is not so much a day of serious obedience. It is not about following a list of rules. Instead, it is a day apart from the world. It is a nice break from typical errands and tasks.
